After posting the latest entry on my blog and on the Splitcoast Stampers website, I have probably received 20 or so comments, emails and PM’s with kind words and questions about Jack. Most people are just so happy for us. Other people are sharing their stories with me and want to try the powders as well. One person even thanked me for not giving up on Jack. I don’t have any medical answers, but just the story of what happened to us.
I am just so thrilled that we did that “one more try”. We had tried everything and I did not have hope that this would work. Once again, I am a firm believer in medicine. I have Crohn’s Disease and I know that I need my medicine. But I also know that medicine (the allergy shots, mostly) did not work for Jack. The steroids helped him with the itching, but it wasn’t keeping it under control and there are long-term side effects.
I am not an advocate of boycotting the veterinarian. However, I am a believer in trying other things when what you are doing doesn’t work.

Absolutely! My inlaws had a youngish boxer dog who was suffering terribly from arthritis. They were told that, within a year or two, she'd be unable to walk. They went away and researched it and found green-lipped mussel tablets (for humans). They were safe for dogs so they tried them - and she was a different dog, who lived to a ripe old age (for a boxer, about 12). The vet was interested to learn something new, too!

A year ago January we had to put our beloved boxer, Ivy, down due to her allergies, and one of them was grass.
It was eating away at her feet. We dealt with this over the course of 8 years with Ivy. We tried everything, but nothing seemed to work.
Finally, the allergies started eating away at her feet, and it hurt so bad for her to walk. She developed huge blisters, and one of her toes had to be removed. It then started going up her leg.
Our vet, who is the greatest, was so upset, because there was nothing else he could do. Everything we tried just did not work.

I'm happy for you. I can't imagine having to give up a "family member" for an allergy. Things just have a way of working out, huh?
